The University of Vienna (15 faculties, 4 centres, about 188 fields of study, approx. 9.700 members of staff, more than 92.000 students) seeks to fill the position of a University Assistant (post doc) at the Isotope Physics group as soon as possible .

The Isotope Physics group operates the Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator (VERA), an internationally well-established facility for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). A strength of VERA is the capability to perform state-of-the-art measurements all across the nuclear chart. Extending the AMS method to isotopes previously difficult or impossible to measure with a 3MV-accelerator is a particularly important research activity. We are looking for candidates especially qualified to explore and utilize a TIMS ion source for ion-laser interactions and ion-gas reactions of slow molecular anions.

Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:

Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves - Developing and strengthening an independent research profile - Involvement in research projects / research studies - International publications and presentations - Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding - Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement - Supervision of students - Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance - Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration.

PhD or equivalent in naturals sciences preferably in Physics, demonstrated excellence in experimental work preferably in ion beam techniques and/or laser physics related to ion beams. Fluency in English both orally and in writing. IT user skills. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary teams.

Desirable qualifications are: practical experience in AMS or related ion beam techniques of at least four years, practical experience with instrumentation for ion beam and laser applications, gas reaction cells and negative ion sources, in particular TIMS ion sources. Programming skills, CAD skills. Experience in teaching and supervising students.
