at the Particle Physics

The Particle Physics group of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Vienna ( has an opening for two long-term University assistant (PostDoc) positions in particle physics phenomenology with a contract period of up to 6 years that may start as early as March 1, 2022, but at latest at October 1, 2022. Preference will be given to internationally recognised candidates who are sufficiently experienced to pursue their own research directions, interact with the present members of the group and complement their research interests, attract third-party funding, supervise students, promote and conduct national and international networking activities and take an active part in advancing the group development. The research interests of the group focus on particle physics phenomenology, including collider and jet physics, high-precision Standard Model calculations, effective field theories for strong and electroweak interactions in the context of high- and low-energy processes and field theory aspects in physics beyond the Standard Model. The group includes André Hoang, Massimiliano Procura as permanent members, postdocs and a large number of PhD and Master students.

The gross salary of the position is Euro 3945,- fourteen times a year, and there is teaching duty of in average 4 semester hours.

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves:
- Independent and competitive research in the area of theoretical elementary particle physics
- Participation in research, research projects and student supervision
- Preparation of and participation in scientific publications and dissemination
- Participation in the organisation of conferences, workshops and symposia
- Contribution in acquiring third party funding
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the University collective agreement
- Participation in evaluation procedures, quality assurance and administration concerning the research group.

- Doctoral/PhD degree in theoretical physics with emphasis on particle physics.
- Very good knowledge on the physics and phenomenology of the Standard Model and beyond at high and low energies.
- Excellent command of written and spoken Englisch
- Publications in renowned peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in student supervision
- IT user skills
- Team work capabilities
- Teaching experience
