The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry. As part of the Faculty, the Institute of Mathematics represents the entire discipline of mathematics in research and teaching, without making an arbitrary separation into pure and applied fields.

Job Description:
The advertised position is associated with the Data-Driven PDEs group of Ass.-Prof. Dr. Vladimir Kazeev within the Institute for Mathematics. We are looking for an independent, goal-oriented scientist with interests in the fields of numerical mathematics and computational science. The topic of the proposed project is the mathematics of structured numerical methods for PDEs based on low-rank tensor decompositions. Responsibilities include scientific research, the independent teaching of courses (holding classes within the limits imposed by the collective bargaining agreement) and the conduct of examinations as well as participation in teaching evaluations and in administrative tasks. We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months, to become a member of the Vienna School of Mathematics and to actively participate in its activities.

Profile:
Diploma or master degree in Mathematics or a related area, basic mathematical training. Competence in numerical mathematics and scientific computing. Programming skills and the aptitude for the implementation and experimental exploration of numerical algorithms. A very good command of written and spoken English.

Experience in the development of scientific software is desirable.
