Laboratory Manager
at the Department of Evolutionary Biology

The head of the histology laboratory at the Department of Evolutionary Biology is to be filled with immediate effect. The scientific work at the department covers a wide range of animal species. We offer a highly dynamic and exciting work environment with direct contact to various research projects on morphology, development, reproduction and evolution of animals. Depending on the availability of time and personal interest, the position offers not only the management of the laboratories but also the opportunity to contribute to research and teaching in the department.

The position is vacant for the period of absence of a member of staff.


Duration of employment: 6 month/s
Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §54 VwGr. IIIb with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Coordination of laboratory operations: training and safety instructions for new employees in histological methods, independent management of the cutting room, ordering and administration of consumables and chemicals including toxins, organization, coordination and management of the hazardous materials store, professional separation, storage and disposal of chemical waste in the histology laboratory -Support for scientists and students in the preparation of histological sections, staining and evaluation

Profile:
- Education at the level of technical apprenticeship in a biological field, or study of biology.

-Practical experience in the field of histology (sectioning techniques), including fixation, embedding, staining

-Additional experience with morphological methods (microscopy, immunohistology, CT) is advantageous

-Good knowledge of spoken and written English. Knowledge of German advantageous

-Experience in the oral presentation of technically relevant issues including safety training (e.g. using MS PowerPoint) -Very good team skills

-Knowledge of safety-relevant aspects (chemicals, etc.) for working in histological laboratories

-User knowledge of MS Office including Word, Power Point , EXCEL
