The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry. As part of the Faculty, the Institute of Mathematics represents the entire discipline of mathematics in research and teaching, without making an arbitrary separation into pure and applied fields.



Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
The advertised position is associated with the Faculty of Mathematics in the Research Group of Prof. Emmanuel Schertzer (emmanuel.schertzer@univie.ac.at, Webpage: https://mat.univie.ac.at/~eschertzer/). We are looking for a highly qualified researcher in Probability theory with a strong interest in Biomathematics (Population Genetics and Epidemiology). We expect active participation in research and teaching. This involves - developing and strengthening the independent research profile, involvement in research projects / research studies and international publications and presentations. The successful candidate will benefit from a rich research environment in Probability/Theoretical Biology: either at the University of Vienna (Prof. Berestycki, Prof. Hermisson and Prof. Bürger) and at IST (Prof. Barton). He*She will be able to play an active role in the organization of weekly seminars (Probability or/and Biomath groups) and to teach courses (up to max. 4 hours/week per semester). The candidate is expected to carry out mentoring of master and co-mentoring of PhD students and will have the choice to be responsible for project applications and the acquisition of third party funding.

Profile:
A Doctoral degree / PhD or similar qualification is required for all candidates as well as experience in teaching and research. Past research should be documented by publications in recognized scientific journals.
