The Institute of Biological Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Vienna is currently seeking a Ph.D. student with experience in the area of chemical protein synthesis, especially in peptide chemistry and handling as well as modifying hydrophobic peptides and with characterization of peptides and proteins.

The position is advertised for 4 years, starting with a contract duration of 1,5 years which will automatically be extended to a duration of 4 years, unless the employer does submit a nonextension notification after 12 months.



Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Active research - The candidate will be involved in the synthesis of modified peptides and expression of proteins, assembly of proteins by chemoselective ligations, their mass spectrometric analysis as well as in their biochemical characterization. Participation in teaching and administration

We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months. Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement also is expected.


Profile:
The candidate should hold a diploma or master degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related fields.

At least 6 months of experience in peptide synthesis and protein biocchemistry, ability to work in a team, applications documents: -Letter of motivation including research interests -Academic curriculum vitae -List of publications, evidence of teaching (if available) -Degree certificates
