Communication Science is a social science with a diversity of research methods. Its core is the indirect public communication, transmitted by mass media.

The Department of Communication of the University of Vienna, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, announces a vacant post doc position within the field of Advertising and Media Psychology (Prof. Jörg Matthes).

The position involves research, teaching load in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and administrative work. As part of their research, candidates are expected to publish and present at an international level and to participate in raising third-party funding. Teaching at Bachelor's and Master's level in journalism and communication science and the supervision of students is done independently.
Candidates are expected to perform administrative duties and participation in evaluation activities and quality assurance.



Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves
- Research activities in advertising and/or strategic political communication and persuasion research
- Development of proposals and new research projects and acquisition of third-party funding
- (International) publishing and presentation activities
- Participation in and organisation of scientific conferences
- Examination activities and support of students


Profile:
- Doctoral degree/PhD degree in communication studies or related disciplines
- Competence in advertising research and/or strategic political communication and persuasion research
- In-depth knowledge of methods of empirical social research, especially quantitative methods and statistical data analysis
- Experience in research-based teaching at university level
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Computer literacy
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and German
- Ability to work in a team


Desirable qualifications are
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
