The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry. As part of the Faculty, the Institute of Mathematics represents the entire discipline of mathematics in research and teaching, without making an arbitrary separation into pure and applied fields.



Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
The advertised post doc position is associated with the research group of Prof. Philipp Grohs (email: philipp.grohs@univie.ac.at). We are looking for a highly qualified researcher with special interests in application oriented mathematics, for example applied functional analysis, approximation theory, harmonic analysis, numerical analysis and/or statistical learning. Responsibilities include participation in the research activities of applied partial differential equations, the independent teaching of courses (holding classes due to extent regulations of wage agreement) and execution of examinations as well as participation in teaching evaluations and in administrative tasks.

We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months, to become a member of the Vienna School of Mathematics, and to actively participate in its activities.


Profile:
Diploma or master degree in mathematics, high level of competence in functional analysis and numerical analysis as well as advanced programming skills.
